Winter Thaw continues…but don’t get used to it

The weather continued to be unseasonably warm for our weekend walks this week. Eleven of us gathered at Mt Pleasant Cemetery on Saturday. More than I expected actually, given that an almost equal number were participating in the annual Robbie Burns 8k in Burlington on Sunday. Most of us walked two laps trying valiantly to get into shape for our Cleveland training which begins next weekend with 15-16k distances.

Training plans for Cleveland (Full and Half) as well as the Toronto Women’s Half are posted both on the blog and the Google group. If you are having trouble getting on or finding your way around the group, contact Phyllis.

Report from the Robbie Burns race….

“13 TPWer’s did the race and I believe enjoyed themselves, from the finish I can say that all of us finished strong and smiling! It was a moderate weather which was encouraging for the first race of the year for most of us.

Rosemarie was best dressed in a coordinated outfit complete with red tights. It was great to see her out and looking well. She’s not ready to train due to a back injury but was out cheering everyone on and also taking photographs.Dianne was out and cheering as well, we hope that she is out training with us soon.

Congratulations to all who did Robbie Burns for the first time ! We are all proud owners of instakilts, sure to be a hit at the pool or beach this summer.? (Thanks Helen!)

A few items to note concerning upcoming events and timing:

  • Quiltathon – Sunday Feb 21st – We are looking for volunteers to sew and assemble the quilts, but we have learned from last time that it’s easier to buy all the fabric in bulk, in advance. If you want to participate please give Rorie $50 and she’ll take care of buying all the supplies – all you have to do is come!(with your sewing machine if you have one)
  • 2010 registration and fees – we’re putting the final touches on the form and waiver. Fees remain $50. Further details to come.
  • Next quarterly gathering – March 2nd – at Harbord House 6:30pm. More info to come, but if you have a friend interested in potentially joining TPW, it would be a good time for them to ‘check us out’.
  • Tuesday and Thursday night trainings resume – starting March 9th
