It was cold on Saturday and we saw ice for the first time this year. One frozen puddle brought out the child in James who stomped it with glee. I teased him but secretly I wanted to join in!
It was a nice change to be at High Park again – with Phyllis urging us on we set out for the gazebo, some of us more enthusiastically than others. Odd how 10K, which is short stroll when we are in full training, becomes a stretch when we are in maintenance mode. However the sun came out and the chatting made the time fly.
As I have commented before, one of the benefits of walking all year round is experiencing the beauty of the seasons. Although we all muttered about the cold, we also had the privilege of enjoying the pale winter sun on the lake, the intricate ice patterns on the ponds and the stark beauty of the bare trees. Definitely worth the effort.
The group included Carol, James, Sue, Phyllis, Fiona, Klara, Ela, Mary in some spiffy new pants, Sue (who did the distance even though she wasn’t going to), Janet (who showed us some of her gorgeous pearl jewellery), Rorie and Diane (your scribe for today) It turned out that several members of the group had just had birthdays and it was suggested that TPW hold an annual group birthday celebration. Any excuse for a party is fine with me.
The breakfast at the Grenadier seemed particularly delicious.
Two reminders to all: 1) we will be at High Park the first Saturday of every month 2) on Sat. Dec 19th we have been invited to breakfast at Barb’s house hosted by her, Sherry and Mary following our walk at Mt Pleasant. Please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org.
