Too much stuff

“When you have so much ‘stuff’ that you can’t walk, you have a lot of stuff!?

The quote above came from one of our members at breakfast as she was commiserating with another member who has had to miss some Saturday walking because of some unhappy family events.  As soon as I heard her say it, I knew that it was the subject for this week’s blog.

Walking, for me, can occasionally be a kind of therapy.  When I have a problem to deal with, I often find the answer on a Saturday walk.  It can be through group therapy where a few people walking together chew things over and I get new perspective.  It can be one-on-one where another walker takes the time to hear about the problem and offer advice or just sympathy.  Or, as this morning, it can provide time to mull things over on my own.  Today, I walked “alone? with the group and contemplated various courses of action.  By the time I’d finished 6 km I had the answer and was ready for a social time at breakfast.

Of course most weeks we just walk for the sheer fun of it.  But it’s nice to know that there’s the option of dealing with my “stuff? while I walk.  And that if my “stuff? keeps me away, good people will care.
