Race report from Luberon Half (France)

Before the race, with Jean’s jacket!
Mission accomplished here in the Luberon!
Philippa, Ann Louise, Jo Ann and Mary all crossed the finished line upright and smiling today, and in reasonable time!  Philippa especially enjoyed being identified on the loudspeaker as Philippe (her new name now) as she crossed the Finish Line.
The weather couldn’t have been more perfect, and once we recovered from the embarrassment of being the last four people in the race to leave the town of Pertuis (being the only walkers!), all four of us enjoyed a beautiful race route that wound through vineyards,  pretty Provencal countryside, an equestrian centre and by a lovely lake.
Costumed runners included Spiderman, Wonder Woman, kilted Braveheart types, She-Devils etc.
Twice the four of us were asked by a kind woman driving a support vehicle if we wanted a ride to the Finish Line, but we resisted!  I don’t think the concept of Power Walking has yet taken hold in rural France, and most of the crowd on the sidelines weren’t quite sure what to make of the “quatre femmes qui marche tres vite”!
Bottles of red or rose wine were handed out in lieu of medals (how French), and our chauffeur, Bryan, joined us for a post-race lunch in the sunshine in the main square of the town of Tour d’Aigues, where the race finished, beneath some magnificent Roman ruins.  All in all, a great day!  We look forward to sharing more stories when we get home.
A bientot.
