It is all downhill from here…

(some of our over 20 TPW’ers who walked on Sunday)

That was the rallying cry for the strong group of Toronto Power Walker (plus a few of our very good men) who took part in Sunday’s Sporting Life 10K. The downhill course was a little hard on the legs but the day was perfect, the bands lively, and we were fast. Congratulations to Lynn F. who place first in her division; Helen and Ela who placed second and third in theirs and to Sherry and Mary G. who were second in their division. Over all most of us, including me, improved our times from the previous year. Way to go TPW!

And, because after all it was only 10K, many of us walked to the restaurant for breakfast adding another 4.5K. What were we thinking? I was famished by the time we arrived and Marcy has vowed never to leave a race in Helen’s company again. We squeezed 16 of us into a space reserved for 10 and inhaled our food the moment it arrived.

A few committed souls (Helen, Marcy, Susan E.) did High Park on Saturday, enjoying the cherry blossoms and the hills, while Phyllis, Lorna and Rorie walked the 21K route at Sunnybrook. What a dedicated group we are.

On Tuesday we had an excellent turn-out for a refresher course on form from coach Barb Gormley. If you did not get out for it, remember you get another chance next week on May 12. It was great to welcome back ex-JeansMarines walker Beth F. Remember it is never too late to start walking that distance.

See you tonight for intervals, Thurs for a little 8k walk and Sat for a brief 16k walk….we’re only weeks away from the Toronto Women’s Half on May 31st.

Reminders:

All those interested in Barb Gormley’s 6 week clinic need to confirm their attendance by emailing TPW mailto:TPW@rogers.com by this Friday May 8th

We do NOT have 8 participants required to run the clinic at this point. Its a great opportunity to improve technique and learn something new, enabling us to be walking the distance with excellent technique, less risk of injury and training /race strategies !!!

Don’t forget to mark June 2 as a special date in your calendars. We will forgo intervals that Tuesday (I know, I know, it will be a sacrifice) and meet at Harbord House for dinner and socializing.
