The High Park we entered just before 8:00 a.m. on Saturday was like downtown in rush hour! Loads of people, cars, hardly any parking spots and huge line-ups for breakfast. Most of the visitors to the park were admiring the spectacular display of flowering trees on Cherry Hill. In fact, the blossoming trees on our route kept us from noticing much else as we finished our first 3K. Even the zoo animals and birds had come to life!
Rorie, Phyllis, Ela and James started at 7:00 a.m. to accommodate schedules for the weekend (see note from James below). Great to have James back for the day! The 8:00 a.m. crowd – Carol, Sherry, Barbara, Lee, Susan S, Fiona, Klara, Susan B, Diane and Sue began with the first 3K route around the park. It was great to have Diane back and Sue (that would be me) – always on the lookout for an excuse to shorten the route – accompanied Diane for a gentle 6.5K and breakfast. They held tables for the rest of the group who arrived back, having completed their 16K.
The Sporting Life 10K is scheduled for next Sunday, May 2nd, so those doing the race will meet for 5-6K on Saturday morning. The rest of the group will do 20K in preparation for the Cleveland Half on May 16th. See sidebar for training details.
Sporting Life – A post-race brunch will be held at The Foggy Dew, 803 King St. W. at 10:30 a.m. If you haven’t already RSVP’d, please email Sue at firstname.lastname@example.org to be included in the numbers.
