On the morning of New Year’s Eve about a dozen Toronto Power Walkers and a few spouses and a daughter met in the Queen Elizabeth Building on the Ex grounds for the start of the 27th Annual Resolution 5 Km race. We admired this year’s blue jacket with its up-to-date technical fabric and reflecting patches. Then it was out into the mist for the race. The mist became drizzle before long but Mary and I determined that covering our heads made us just too hot so we got wet hair instead. Susan and Alex took pictures and cheered us on.
Everyone finished in good time and after partaking of a few cookies at race end, we gathered at The Brazen Head in Liberty Village for brunch. I was, as always, struck by how convivial this group is. We shared reviews of the movies we’ve seen and the books we’ve read over the holidays, as well as our plans for the evening.
For me, this race is the beginning of my race season after a year off to mend my knees so I really feel that I’ve begun a new year.
Remember, if you plan to sign up for the Sporting Life race on May 13 and you sign up by January 15, you’ll receive a $50 gift certificate, essentially making the race free.
I hope all of you had a safe and happy New Year’s Eve.
