Fire and Ice

Two dozen women showed up on Saturday to walk 6k, 10k, or 12k.  It says something about this winter that a minus 6 degree morning felt balmy to us.  Certainly we’d forgotten what a lift sunlight gives the spirits.  I felt much better after the siege of the polar vortez.  I’ve been making it through this bitter February by looking up the average Toronto temperature 4 weeks from whatever date it is.  (For March 15, the historical average is 3 degrees ABOVE zero.)   Yea, March!

I have been thinking of the polar vortex as the beginning of the apocalypse.  I think I’ll let Robert Frost speak for me.

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.
