Cherry Blossoms in DC

I noticed this weekend the tenacity of runners and power walkers this Saturday as I toured Washington DC. The streets and paths were busy as people moved their way along the National Mall toward the cherry blossoms at the Tidal Basin.I saw runners/ walkers carefully move through the crowd often slower than they planned I am sure. Once in a clearing they increased their pace and left the crowds.

While touring  I thought about when I did the Marine Corps Marathon and the 10k. When I see the Washington Monument, I think of the hours I spent there cheering on Jeans Marines as they passed me doing the marathon on their last trip to Washington.
I remember Mary, Sherry, Lee and Susan B (I am sure there are others, names escape me ).

The Marine Corps Marathon was a ‘rite of passage’ for Jeans Marines. So many of us did the race, celebrating with a hug from a Marine at the finish line. Washington holds memories of races and of women achieving the goal of completing a marathon.

Back to Toronto and I think of doing Sporting Life 10k next month, some of us for the first time. Congrats on registering for your first race. It may change your life!

Walk your distances this week!
