Although not officially summer, the weather feels like it this week.
After a successful race weekend in Cleveland, and being the May long- weekend, we were pleasantly surprised to have as many as 12.5 walkers out on Sat. in High Park (the half was Susan B. racewalking by as we were cooling down after 14k). For a change, we skipped the ‘once around the park’ and went straight out to the Music Garden and back. FYI, the washrooms are now open. (Oh darn, we forgot to look for the pay one…. something to look for as the distances increase).
Looking forward, we have the Toronto Women’s Half next Sunday. A few of us are not racing, so we’ll be at High Park at 8am. Come to Sunnybrook park on Sunday to cheer, if you are free! You know how much it means to have a friendly face on the sideline cheering you on.
The following weekend – June 5th – marks the beginning of summer hours. We start at 7am at High Park – its cooler early in the AM and you get the distance done before many others are up and around!
We also need to think about our fall goals – marathon (Toronto International, Scotiabank, Hamilton), half marathon (Scotia, Kitchener-Waterloo), or something else. We’ll create training plans for the races, and post the weekly distances for popular ones. We should probably have a ‘quarterly meeting’ soon, to ensure that we’re all on track (and other reasons).
Stay cool and hydrated as you walk the distance!
