Birds fly, fish swim, humans walk (with thanks to the Nordic Walkers van)

Seeing the above logo on the van parked in the Cemetery made me think about our ability to walk on two feet and its significance.

According to the World Book “Many of the physical characteristics that distinguish human beings from other primates are related to the ability of people to stand upright and walk on two legs.  [I thought it was our opposable thumbs but clearly racoons have that gift as well]  This ability to walk chiefly requires long, powerful legs….The human foot is also specially adapted for walking on two legs.”

So there you have it; we are participating in something that makes us uniquely human – walking.  And walking together seems to bring the humanity out in us.
