At least it wasn’t raining…

Fifteen intrepid Toronto Power Walkers braved the weather on Saturday morning and participated in the 8k Harry’s Spring Run-off (I think that Spring did run off – it was so cold and windy). Congratulations to Mary G, Helen, Kate, Rorie, Lorna, Diane, Ela, Mary W, Katharin, Carol, Rosemary, Barbara, Linda, Franki, Shirley, and Juli. Thanks to Rosemarie and David, Kathryn G, Wendy, Lee and Phyllis for cheering in the frigid weather. Your enthusiasm and sheer presence helped our walkers get up Spring Hill and over the finish line.

Congratulations to David, Rosemarie and Kathryn G, for their race in the Angus Glen Ten Miler on the cart paths of the Angus Glen Golf Course! What a glorious day it was!

Last Tuesday night’s interval training this week broke a record for attendance. I stopped counting at 17! Perhaps the Spring-like temperatures and the longer light in the evening brought out a few more walkers. Perhaps it was because it was the first Tuesday in April, and May races are around the corner. Whatever the reason, be sure to come out, you’ll be glad that you did.

To help you tune-up your form and refresh your stretches, we are offering a special Interval training session with Coach Barb Gormley on a Tuesday night. Choose a date – either April 28th or May 12th and email your preference to tpw@rogers.com . We will accept a maximum of 20 participants per session. “First come, first served?. We will still be doing interval training, even if we are not being coached by Barb. Participation limited to members of TPW. Barb will also be offering a more intense six-week power-walking training course, on Tuesdays in May/June. Further info on dates and cost coming soon.

This Thursday we will resume walking from the North Toronto Community Centre at 6:30pm. Check the sidebar for details about location, distance and route map.

This Saturday we’ll be moving to High Park, AND starting at 8am. As the distances get longer and the sun hotter, you’ll be glad that we get out early. Whatever your distance, there is always a route for you! The first one back can save multiple tables for us at the Grenadier Restaurant.

This is a weekend of religious holidays – Happy Passover, Happy Easter. Enjoy spending time with family and friends. Don’t worry if you eat too much….just get out for a stroll to walk it off.
