April – by Ogden Nash, and Linda

Ogden Nash wrote:
Praise the spells and bless the charms,
I found April in my arms.
April golden, April cloudy,
Gracious, cruel, tender, rowdy;
April soft in flowered languor,
April cold with sudden anger,
Ever changing, ever true –
I love April, I love you.
He may have been writing about an April girl, but this Saturday morning we experienced all of these moods in the 2 hours that we were out walking.  We started in sunshine and then walked through a blizzard at about the 3 kilometre mark.  This led several of us to decide that 6 kilometres would be enough.  But when decision time arrived, blue skies seduced us into another 6.  And when we were well into it, more snow fell, but this time with a little less wind.
Still, the forsythia were in bloom, the scilla spilled over the lawns and a sweet variety of tiny daffodil peeked at us through the grass.
Spring really is here; it’s just April’s changeable nature.
