A Great Day for a Walk in the Park …

Saturday morning dawned and 13 of us gathered at High Park for one of the most beautiful days we’ve had to date. After our tour in the Park, most of us did the required 13k on the waterfront (Toronto Women’s Half schedule). A few of us closed in on 10k and breakfasted a bit earlier while basking in the sun on the patio. Carol and Laurel gave out TPW shirts on Saturday and will also be giving them out on Tuesday night as well. We missed you, Helen; we know you’re having a great time out east!

Since they had not had a chance to walk the route of the Women’s Half Marathon, Fiona and Klara started out with maps in hand around 4 pm on Friday. Fiona suffered along the route and eventually decided to stop near the “Teeth? at 18.5 km while Klara did the entire 21 km distance. Congratulations!

Their comments about the route: “It will certainly be an interesting race on the 31st and I am hoping that the rough spots have thinned out of runners by the time the power walkers are coming through.? I don’t know about you, but I’ll be starting at the end of the participants – I don’t relish being run over by the runners.

Good Luck to all on Sunday, May 31st. Don’t forget to wear your TPW hat! Even if you can’t do the race, please come out and cheer. We’ll be meeting at 7:15am at the Sunnybrook Park washrooms, about 500 m away from the start/finish line. Enter the park and turn right at the bottom of the hill for the washrooms and parking lots. If you turn left at the bottom of the hill you’ll be at the start/finish line, and the place to pick up your chip (velcro band worn on your ankle).

Please see the sidebar for the scheduled Tuesday intervals and Thursday walk. And, if you’re a fan of farmers’ markets, behind the Community Centre each Thursday until 7pm you can buy vegetables, meat, eggs, plants…mmm!

Reminder

Don’t forget to mark June 2 as a special date in your calendars. We will forego intervals that Tuesday and meet at Harbord House for dinner, socializing, a speaker and talk about our summer/fall training.
